Marciana Buta

 

Marciana Buta has come from Romania in 2001 to study in the UK on full bursary at
Wells Cathedral School. During her studies in Wells she has won the first prize of the
Mid Somerset Festival and performed as a soloist with Wells Symphony Orchestra.
In 2006 she started the BMus course at the Royal Academy of Music having been
offered a full scholarship. In between 1999-2001, she won every year consecutively
the National Romanian Solo competition and, since she was seven, was invited every
year to have solo concerto appearances with the Arad Philharmonic Orchestra in
Romania and also had appearances on National Radio and Television West. Marciana
has toured Norway, Poland, Italy, Switzerland, China, Kazakhstan both as a soloist
and as an orchestral member of the European Union Youth Orchestra, of which
she has been part of for the past 3 years. As well as performing with the Shanghai
Philarmonic and Malta Philharmonic, she led on several occasions the RAM Concert
Orchestra and Opera Orchestra and was invited to lead the Stanley Hall Opera in
2009.

In January 2009 she won the Wolfe Wolfinssohn String Quartet Prize and the Arthur
Bliss Prize, both held at RAM. For several years she was invited to attend Pro Corda,
the National School for Young Chamber Music Players, where she had the privilege
to work with great quartets, such as the Wihan Quartet. Marciana is leading the
Wilhelm String Quartet with whom she has toured Australia in 2009 and will also
return there in 2010. The quartet has recently performed as the solo quartet with
the Royal Academy String Orchestra and they have been invited to perform evening
recitals at St Martin in the Field’s Church in October 2010 and at Eaton Square. They
have been selected to work closely with Thomas Brandis, the Griller Chair of the
Royal Academy of Music and performed alongside established musicians, such as
Hartmut Rohde.

Marciana is also invited to teach regularly at Pro Corda and at Watford School of
Music. In September 2010 she will return for solo recitals and concertos in Romania,
as well as perform as a soloist with Cardiff Simfonietta.
